Tips for a Successful Garage Sale...

Yep, it's that time of year!

I have been having garage sales almost every year for the past 25 years and I have some great tips for you.  Hope this helps!

In real estate we say "Location, Location, Location"

In garage sale lingo this equates to "Label, Label, Label"

No one like to ask "how much" and how can you haggle if there is no starting

      point, right?

*Put the big stuff up front. Full tables and large items. Bookcases, dressers, toys, and

      tools attract traffic.

*Dealers and collectors visit sales, so clearly display one-of-a-kind items.

*Make sure appliances work, and clean everything. Have an extension cord or outlet near by

so they can test it out, shows integrity

*Pricing:  it's not really a big deal, everyone is going to haggle, so don't set your expectations

too high.  Remember you don't want it anymore and your not going to get full retail price!

20-60% of retail is a fair price for most items. Tag all items, but be prepared to haggle.

*Be organized! Neat, clean, well organized items on shelves or racks fetch higher price.

      Try to hang clothes.

*Make neatly lettered signs to direct traffic to your house. Use bright colored poster boards.

Remember to pick them up after the sale.

*Leftovers: Give them away!, or call a charitable organization for pickup.

Do you really want to keep this stuff for next year?

*Keep a list of donated items for your accountant at tax time.*
